I am happy to say that I have been GOOD this year and majorly curbed my shopaholic tendencies. I was hoping maybe you could, ever so generously, aid to my cause by putting any of the following underneath my Christmas tree…

This 2009 DITA Collection pre-launched on October 17, 2008 at Gafas (561 Queen Street West), a fine eyewear boutique, in Toronto before it’s official launch in November, in Paris, France.

“Dita is a celebrated eye wear design house based in Los Angeles inspired by vintage eye wear and  handmade in Japan using the highest quality materials. Dita’s coveted eye wear is quickly becoming the ‘must-have’ accessory for the fashion-elite and celebrities including Brad Pitt, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jessica Simpson, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Lenny Kravitz, Eva Mendez and Jamie Fox.”

I came across this eye wear line when I was helping a friend with the PR for it’s pre-launch party at Gafas. Dita co-founders Jeff Solorio and John Juniper flew in from LA just to unveil the 2009 collection here in Toronto. In case you are wondering, the line DITA is named after everyone’s favourite burlesque dancer, Dita Von Teese. I caught up with John at the party and as it turns out, she happens to be one of his best friends… needless to say, they named the line after her.

Dita is exclusively sold at Gafas in Canada.

Kanye West had recently openly expressed that he wanted to put his music career on hold to intern for Louis Vuitton or Raf Simons.

Was my initial response, but then I realized that he is quite the devotee to fashion so that does not really come as a huge surprise. Versus when I heard last year, that Sean Avery (NHL player of the Dallas Stars), wanted and went on to intern for Men’s VOGUE, I almost fell of my chair.

Compared to many actors/singers/celebs who are self-proclaimed fashion designers, I think it’s a positive and very respectable thing for Kanye to do. He is humbling himself for once by expressing interest in learning from one of the most successful and leading luxury retailers to date, and not to be just, in his own words, a “celebrity designer.”

First Sean now Kanye, is this becoming a trend? Celebrities who want to do “internships”?

From an organization’s point of view, they really have nothing to loose. Sure these guys wouldn’t know a thing about what they are doing but they are celebrities. Companies will not technically pay them, but I’m sure they will get special “intern” treatment. (E.g. Sean got to attend a Couture fashion show in Paris, he got to guest write and edit etc.) and if Kanye ends up interning for LV, they’d probably do the same and give him tons of free product.

Bottom line is why not? These celebrities are almost knocking on the doors of these organizations to be free spokes people. Not to mention the tons of publicity both the celeb and company will get. Win-win, the celeb gets their “learning experience” and the company gets effortless press.

Le *sigh*, the perks of being a celeb… at the end of the day it really is what YOU can do for the company. This is the epitome of just that!

In my opinion, there is no such thing as celebrities doing internships… it’s just them getting what they want and companies having nothing to loose but gain from the opportunity. Yes they will be learning, but it’s things that you and I will never learn or do as an intern.

These are two of the six photos (courtesy of WWD) from the new LV campaign to be launched and the Material Girl is the face of it! The theme of this campaign is very Parisian and an extension of Marc Jacobs Spring ’09 fashion show.
LOVES IT – and that purse is calling my name!

This post is a little delayed with the campaign having officially launched a couple weeks ago, but with the holiday season around the corner and the philanthropic gesture of a retail company in such hard economic times, I just had to share this with you…

Gucci designed the Tattoo Heart Collection featuring tattoo-inspired printed canvas totes, silk scarves, and jewelry with tattooed hearts, flowers and stars; giving 25% from the sales of each tattoo heart item to UNICEF.

I am liking the ” ‘hysteria’ medium top handle bag” made with  “white python, Gucci tattoo heart patchwork, white leather trim, and gold hardware” (the magnified one on the right), it’s such a statement bag going for $4590.

A luxurious alternative to UGG boots…
