This is completely random but purchasing my favourite, most dependable and if not THE BEST hairspray in the world today was almost a tramatic experience.
Having had two bad hair days two really bad hair days in a row, I finally walked into Trade Secret looking to replace my SEBASTIAN Professional Shaper Megahold hairspray. (I’ve been using this hairspray for the past 2 and a half years. It is because of this product that I remotely have a presentable hair do. I have really flat hair, i’ve tried every hair product imaginable to keep the volume in my hair and nothing except for the Shaper Megahold works for me.) But to my disappointment and for the third time in 2 months, I did not see it on the shelves. Border-line distraught and a little panic stricken I began to think they discontinued the product and my hair would have to forever look volumeless and undone. After my mini meltdown re the hair situation, I turned to the sales associate and asked her if they were ever going to re-stock the Shaper Megahold.
And then she told me… “SEBASTIAN Professional’s Shaper Megahold is no longer in the white bottles they were actually just on the shelf below in the black bottles.” As it turns out my beloved hairspray got a make over and a new name. It’s now Professional SEBASTIAN Shaper Fierce. And ofcourse all I could think of after reading the new name on the smaller black bottle was Sasha Fierce… why you ask? Probably because i’ve been scarred by Beyonce’s alter ego which has successfully ruined the word fierce for me forever.
Anyway, the moral of my story is just ask the sales associate the next time you go in there when you don’t see something because, i’m not even joking she had a “just ask” tag pinned on her shirt (I don’t know why I didn’t think to ask someone the last 2 times I was in there) and SEBASTIAN Professional Shaper Megahold lost some weight, got a make over, a new name and fooled me into thinking I was destined to bad hair for the rest of my life.

oh they’ve totally made it a more urban / modernized look – but I guess that happens whenever packaging goes black.
trade secrets is incredible, I love going in there and getting something splendid

I know and you know what? After I wrote this post and actually tried the new bottle of hairspray I realized that they did change the formula and it’s not the same as the old one =(
It’s not as good anymore!

Wow!!! I met someone like me, YOU!!! I also was in a panic when I heard they were discontinuing the Megahold hairspray!!! I think I bought the last 6 sprays at my local beauty supply shop several months ago. Now, I have officially run out of them. Up until recently you could get them on the internet, but now they are all discontinued. And I agree with the other posts, the replacement, Fierce, or whatever it’s called isn’t as good. They changed their formula, because I used Fierce for the first time this a.m. and by afternoon, my hair was as flat as a pancake. Why can’t they leave things alone???????????????

Hey Terry,
There is a bit of relief in me to know that I AM NOT ALONE lol. Yeah FLAT as a PANCAKE does not even begin to describe the lack of volume that is my hair. Seriously, i’m so mad because i spent $22 i think for this hairspray so it would be a literal waste if i just stopped using it (and the bottle is still full fyi) I pretty much walk around in misery 2hrs after getting to work b/c that is when my hair goes volume-less and then it becomes that constant reminder of how i miss the old MEGA HOLD hairspray!
They need to get on bringing back the OLD Sebastian MEGA HOLD!

I had to comment on this blog, there has got to be other people out there just like us, with flat hair and p’d with Sebastian! I wrote a comment on their site declaring my severe disappointment with their change in formula. Why change an incredibly awesome product? I don’t get it. Maybe it’s more environmentally friendly…too bad, they have certainly lost my loyalty, and I’m still on the search for a replacement.

Hi there,
I hate the new Sebastian Fierce.
I purchased it at ‘beautyfirst’ – a retailer similar to Trade Secrets. I promptly returned it – in that it holds as well as dust would. I generally take the
I hate discontinued items in that it costs a small fortune to find an adequate replacement.
A good substitute – but a bit ‘gooy’ is Volumax.
It is sold at Sally’s Beauty Supply and Kroger Grocery Stores.
What city are you located in? I saw the photos of the two spray cans – mine have been without the extreme danger warnings on the white can for a long time and not on the black can at all.
Anyway, good luck. Please post if you find an equivalent spray.
